A Facebook page isn’t enough and here is why.

The trend these days for many start-up businesses and even some well-established businesses is to set up a Facebook page and call it good. Forget the website; don’t worry about updating your presence on Google because everyone is on Facebook! In fact, it’s true that Facebook has a lot of benefits, especially when you consider that 68% of Americans use Facebook. After all, it is cheap, easy, user friendly and growing daily. You can run ad campaigns and boost posts to reach lots of potential customers. Not to mention, it is a great way to interact with customers, drive traffic to a website and provides a platform for easy reviews. There is no doubt that having a Facebook page for your business is a necessity, but is it all you need? The answer is no and here is why:

  1. Facebook is very limited in the amount and type of content available. Obviously, you can’t display everything you want to showcase on Facebook. You can’t even change how your posts are displayed. How do you stand out when everyone’s post looks pretty much the same?
  2. Facebook is flooded. Think about the number of ads that show up in your news feed? How many do you actually click on? Although Facebook’s algorithms are getting better at targeting appropriate audiences, they don’t take you to people who are ready to buy your product.
  3. You don’t own your page. Facebook can change, or even delete your page without warning if they so choose.
  4. Competitors can advertise on your page. You wouldn’t want competitors advertising on your website, why would you want similar businesses showing up on your Facebook page? But that is exactly what happens.

A few more points to consider:

  1. Most people go to the internet first. 90% of adults in the United States use the internet on a daily basis. Consumers use websites to find or engage with businesses 63% of the time. Not only that, but 92% of searchers choose a business that is on page one of search results!
  2. Google doesn’t index Facebook which making you hard to find and if you ain’t first, you’re last, to quote the famous Ricky Bobby. If you don’t show up on the first page of a Google search, it’s unlikely that people will go to the second page to find your business. Another thing to keep in mind is that the more people interact with your website, the more credibility it has. More credibility means your site will show up in searches more often.
  3. Less insight and analysis. Although Facebook is getting better with their analysis, search engines like Google and Bing provide free insight and analysis showing you much more usable information to optimize your website.
  4. Facebook is less professional. Having an updated website makes your business look legit and professional. Not to mention all the pages and information you can provide your clients.
